Lonnie Graham, is an artist, photographer and cultural activist whose work addresses the integral role of the artist in society and seeks to re-establish artists as creative problem solvers. Lonnie Graham is a Pew Fellow and Professor at Pennsylvania State University since 2003. He earned his MFA from SFAI where he eventually became a visiting instructor of Graduate Studies. He is formerly the director of Photography at Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, in Pittsburgh, PA and is now Executive Director at PhotoAlliance.
In 1996 Graham was commissioned to create the "African/American Garden Project." which provided a physical and cultural exchange of urban single mothers in Pittsburgh, and farmers from Muguga, Kenya. This began a series of trips to Ghana, Kenya, India, Ethiopia, Iceland, Nepal and Tibet contributing to his body of work “A Conversation with the World” which was published as an exhibition catalogue and a stunning monograph by Datz Press in 2017.
