2010
India ink, woodblock monotype
24 x 19” unframed

These block prints are simple images, usually a symbol in a single color. The plaques, medals and badges are matter of fact authoritarian emblems, maybe commercial, maybe civil; while the meat images are more human in tone. The flag is somewhere between given its iconography.

By combining them, I am trying to make both work together in a silent anthem of patriotic discomfort. Using the sewing to unify a set of disparate images, multiple meanings can be achieved.
