The Unsaid series of photographs is from an evolving study of an old hand-painted sign. By concentrating on the space between the letters, the artist is literally reading between the lines. The abstractions and associative imagery allow a different interpretation of the sign’s intended message.
Steve Briscoe
Steve Briscoe is a mixed media artist living in Woodland, California. He grew up in Stockton, California and attended Santa Clara University and the San Francisco Art Institute. He has been an artist in residence at Public Glass in San Francisco, Paulson Fontaine Press in Berkeley and the Bemis Center in Omaha. His work is in the collection of the Crocker Art Museum, San Jose Museum, Berkeley Art Museum, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the di Rosa Foundation, among others.
His work has taken many forms, with bodies of work in constructed sculpture, photography and works on paper. More questions than answers, his explorations of materials and processes are wide-ranging and open-ended, rewarding contemplation.
